I'm Going To Pull a Firetruck This Weekend

As many of my fellow Canadian readers can appreciate, one of my favourite parts about summer is that I get to train and compete in the sport I love because strongman is done almost entirely outdoors and lends to the seasonality of the sport in Canada.

Since joining my amazing Kingston-based strongman training team four years ago we’ve become part of something much bigger in making use of our strength to raise funds for charity and loved ones.

This culminates in the team firetruck pull we take part in each year in Kingston for Epilepsy South-Eastern Ontario. We do this on behalf of Sadie, the namesake of our team “Sadie’s Clydsdales.”

Sadie was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was ten and it was a big shift to Everyday life for her whole family. As of this year, Sadie has reached the minimum age and will be joining our team in participating in the firetruck pull alongside the rest of us. If you want to learn more about the backbone and founding of our team, this TV interview with Sadie and my coach Giles Sharpe covers more of the origin story.

Strongman tends to be a lonely and solitudinous sport but doing events like this team firetruck pull each year for the last 4 years has shown me a deeper meaning to the value of strength; particularly the strength found in numbers.

Because this charity and raising funds for our team means an awful lot to not only myself but Sadie and her family, I’d like to make use of every avenue I have to raise funds on behalf of Sadie and our team.

If you’d be willing to make a donation that would be spectacular and mean the world to me.

This is the link to our team’s fundraising page:

In return, for anyone who makes a donation of any amount towards our team, I would like to personally thank you and show my gratitude by providing you with a coupon for 50% off any one appointment for any service you’d like at Flow Spa to be used before the end of August. I believe that with a Canada Helps fundraiser like this you can get a tax deduction receipt with any donation of $10 or more. I know not all of you are in the area around Peterborough, but if this is something that can provide you with value in return, I’m happy to do it.

I will check for donor names at the end of the fundraiser period after this week but if you want to send me a confirmation email that you’ve made a donation, feel free.

Thank you so much for your support,

RJ
